Good By Estonia

Another day begins with Brett and I sitting on the Baltic ferry Superstar on our way to Helsinki, Finland. Another beautiful day started at around 3:30, about the time the clubs started. To slow down, not close, just slow down. Should be in Helsinki by 9:39, a sort run across the Gulf of Finland. Going to post cuz I lose my free interznet access once the ferry pushes away from the dock. Talk to you in Finland.

A Sunny Day in Tallinn, Estonia June 30, 2011

So, a person can get a bit tired when going from Houston, Texas to Tallinn, Estonia. By my calculations this first leg of the Lifetrek63 took 17 hours and that was to the Tallinn airport. Brett met me at the airport and a quick cab ride got us to Vana Wiru Hotel right in the middle of Old Town, Tallinn. He got us an excellent room with two beds. We are cozy! Wanting to minimize the jet lag impact I decided I would massively hydrate and stay up as long as I could. With the sun never setting in Tallinn at this time of the year that wasn't hard to do. Hit the sack at 11:oo p.m. or 23 hours after leaving Houston and 33 hours after getting up on Tuesday morning. Yep! That adds up to 33 hours. Sun was up all night, but I had my trusty "Hollywood Movie Star" black out shades (compliments of Continental Airlines when I used to travel first class) so slept well. Slept until 11:30! Hey, right, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY!

Had a great breakfast of a quiche, pastry and coffee and then we hit the trail. What a great first day. Beautiful town, perfect weather, small tourist crowds and trekking with the Brettster.

The photo posts are all from Tallinn. Two of them are videos. The first video is a 360 degree of the town square.
The second one, really three videos, (stopped twice to reposition the camera)are from the top of the bell tower of St. Olav.

At the time this tower was constructed it was the highest building in the Europe.

Walked for about six hours and took in all the sights. For those who have traveled in Europe, Old Town Tallinn is pretty much the same as all city centres from the 11th century. For people like me, it was amazing. Cobbled narrow streets dissected by smaller, narrower cobbled alleys, surrounded by an outer wall and the core city ensconced by an impressive inner wall structure and moat. Loved every minute.

We finished the day with an orange Fanta and a A Le Coq beer sitting at a sidewalk cafe watching all the people. Such a great end to our first day. Oh, wait, that's right. This isn't the end. It's 8:30 p.m (20:00), the sun has not set, we have not had dinner or packed for our 6:00 a.m. wake up call for our ferry trip to Helsinki. More tomorrow.

Baby Stepping

It's 28 June, 2011. In seven hours lift off from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, on KLM, will start the next phase of my life and the newest Trek. Am sure the first postings will be rough as I learn the how to's of a Blogger.
